No, you do not need a referral to come to the shelter.  To access our services, please call our 24/7 crisis line at 204-623-5497.

If you have time to prepare, we recommend bringing the following items for yourself and your children, if applicable.   Current prescription medications and/or medical devices Identification (ex. passports, driver’s license, birth certificates, social security cards) Important documents (ex. immunization records, health insurance policy, immigration or work permit papers) Clothing (we can supply extras, as needed)  Emergency contact numbers Your safety is our top priority. If you need to leave quickly, please come as you are and our shelter staff will provide clothing, meals, basic needs, and guidance for your next steps.

No, there is no cost to access our emergency shelter or any of our services.  If a resident is receiving social assistance, payments will go directly to the shelter.  All basic needs are provided and covered by the shelter. Residents also receive an allowance for additional personal needs.

As part of our intake process, we will ask a few questions about your family and basic demographic information, which will be kept in strict confidence. Our caring staff will ensure your immediate needs are met – such as food and clothing.  After a brief tour of the shelter, we will invite you to settle into your room. Each shelter resident receives a private room and families are kept together.

Residents may stay at the emergency shelter for up to one month, after which we will support you through the process of securing longer-term housing.  Extensions may be provided depending on individual circumstances.

Yes, men can also access our shelter and services. Hotel accommodations may be provided when needed.  While we acknowledge the gender-based dimensions of violence that put women at a statistically higher risk, we know that men can and do experience violence, too.  We are committed to supporting every member of our community seeking a safe place for a fresh start after experiencing violence in the home – regardless of their gender identity.
